Nowadays, one of the most serious concerns equally affecting human beings is environmental deterioration.

Throughout times our planet has suffered natural changes always seeking a balance and keeping a period of stability for life to develop. The human being, however, has interfered with nature by changing the ecosystems equilibrium faster than through natural means and the most recent century unnervingly showed how our planet has rapidly and significantly devastated forests, driven fauna and flora species to extinction, as well as the atmosphere and water pollution, in addition to bad handling of residues, not to mention the lack of prevention in the optimal use of natural resources.

Corporación Moctezuma composed by Cementos Moctezuma and Concretos Moctezuma, acting as a socially responsible company aware of environmental problems, has determined to implement from this year the Environmental Week program coinciding with the cause to celebrate the World Environment Day.

Our goal is to help in the preservation and sustainable use of natural resources by keeping our working areas trimmed and cleaned, reinforcing our organizational culture in favor of the environment and through good environmental practices.

During the 1st Environmental Week, June 4 – 9, 2007, activities are developed companywide in our working centers with the following subjects:

• Trimness and Cleaning: Implementation of 5´s. (in all the operational and administrative areas, offices and workshops). Addressed to all personnel organization-wide.

• Environmental Education: Conferences. Addressed to organization personnel and schools

The following video-conferences were carried out regarding these issues:

• Organizational Culture
• Climate Change
• Good reforestation practices
• Handling of waste materials
• Paleontology

Elementary and High Schools from nearby communities were invited to the Cerritos and Tepetzingo Plants.

• General Activities (Reforestation program, animal exhibition and interactive dynamics for children). Addressed to the schools of nearby communities and families of personnel at Corporación Moctezuma.

In this section the following was performed:

• Museography Exhibition (fauna species)
• Fossil Exhibition representing most important climate events since the commencement of life
• Animal exhibition (arachnids and reptiles) and dynamics with children.

A reforestation Program was implemented and 3,500 small trees of the following species were planted; guava tree, caesalpinia, guanacastle (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) and several species characteristic of the villages of Tepetzingo, Emiliano Zapata and Tezoyuca, where elementary school students participated. Likewise, at the Cerritos plant in San Luis Potosí training for elementary school children and junior high school boys and girls was given about the handling of waste materials and paper classification, How to make compost?, among other subjects.

Corporación Moctezuma’s General Director, Mr. Antonio Taracena Sosa, carried out in teleconference the opening and closing of the works consolidating the significance of caring for the environment since it is inhabited by all of us and it is between us that we must take care of what nature has provided us with.

We must have careful regard for all the actions we are able to accomplish. Let us devote ourselves to the common task of preserving all the forms of life in our planet with a solid commitment and solid confidence in being all together for a Better Planet.
