Promoting the social and cultural development of our communities

As part of its business-related policy, Corporación Moctezuma has embodied strategic, social, labor, environmental and human rights aspects.

Accordingly, Corporación Moctezuma has voluntarily adopted ethical and public accountability values in an attempt to achieve socioeconomic development of the community and society at large, thus improving quality of life for individuals and their families. We are in quest of advancing welfare to our fellow laborers and their families, investing in our communities, raising a higher education, respecting cultural diversity and curtailing environmental impacts through sustainable business practices.

Likewise, we have established a Social Follow-up Program that takes into account different external and internal issues. Such program takes up an active role in the social and cultural development of our communities, whether through educational promotion and sport activities, therefore seeking to encourage the welfare and active involvement by individuals living in communities near our Plants in Tepetzingo in the State of Morelos and Cerritos in the State of San Luis Potosí.

In place there are actions established conducting to social welfare such as:

  • Educational Excellence Program: It is aimed at providing Directors and teachers with basic skills and aptitudes. Likewise, the aim is to accomplish an increased level of the education conveyed. It aims to achieve that teachers become trained individuals conveying the knowledge they have gained to their colleges.

  • Apprenticeship Evaluation
    • Workshop among young people. Provide young people from nearby communities with formative, educational and social action programs in order that young men/women are more cognizant about their environment and society.

Issues to consider are:

  • Basic Principles: That the young men/women acquire knowledge, and keep themselves amused.
  • School conferences on basic issues such as: ecology and sustainable development, self-esteem and personal appearance, personal education.
    • Soccer Team: the Three Ts. Offer an option to use idle times by promoting sports as a wholesome activity for boys and girls and young people from nearby communities.

The basic requirement is that players are enrolled in the school and keep an acceptable grade average.

57 students assorted in 3 teams from 13 to 17 years of age are trained and educated.

  • Health Fair. The aim is to keep a cooperative relationship with Federal health-related authorities and provide cooperation to Municipal and community authorities. Community is invited to participate through the use of posters and sound equipment. Health care modules are assembled in the town’s civic square and the following daylight health care services are provided:
  • Vaccines
  • Breast cancer detection
  • Teeth flour application
  • Deparasitation
  • Family planning
  • Pediatric care
  • Haircutting

Additionally, integration activities are developed by day such as basketball competitions, racings in different categories. This activity is performed once a year in the towns close to Cement Plants.

  • Scholarships for young people. Participation of the firm to enhance the educational level of the society, scholarships are destined to young people of the region whose parents' income is less than three monthly minimum salaries in the region. The scholarship is given to those young people currently studying in the national education system from the third year in junior high school with a minimum average of 8.5 on a 10-point scale.

Likewise, Cementos Moctezuma was incorporated into the United Nations Global Compact as from December 2005, which is an initiative of ethical commitment intended for the entities and firms worldwide to welcome as an integral part of their respective operations and activities ten rules of action and behavior on Human Rights, Occupational, Environmental and Anti-corruption issues.

These are some of the actions we perform in our attempt to improve:

  • The quality of life for our fellow laborers
  • The setting up of social value for our community
  • Reduction of environmental impact
  • Contribution to the social and economic development of communities close to our facilities.

Corporación Moctezuma has a working culture according to the guidelines set forth by Integral System of Quality, Environmental and Safety with Social Responsibility (SICMAS with RS [Sistema Integral de Calidad, Medio Ambiente y Seguridad con Responsabilidad Social]) according to standard ISO 9001: 2000 (quality), ISO 14001:2004 (environment), OHSAS 18001:1999 (Occupational health and safety) and NMX-SAST-004-IMNC:2004 (social responsibility)
